Our Approach

We believe strongly that families in rural areas deserve the same high quality services that are available in larger towns and cities.  We have organised our service provision to meet our objectives, as follows:

  • We carefully negotiate interventions based on individual needs

  • We maintain high levels of communication with everyone involved to provide the best chance of continuity

  • We are able to provide intensive interventions where appropriate to those who live at a significant distance from our base in Hay on Wye

  • Much of our therapeutic work involves two workers to allow time for adults to receive individual support as well as joint work with their children without the need for multiple appointments

  • We involve mentors across a wide geographical area who link with the team and can provide more localised support when needed

  • Our interventions centrally involve the main carer and draw upon the latest family models of best practice.  These include Theraplay® and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).

  • Developing the confidence and skills of parents and their support network is a central priority.  We have video link facilities to allow a high level of feedback and development for those involved with the service

  • We actively encourage local support workers, friends and relatives to become involved in interventions so that there is continuity in the home setting.  Involvement in an intervention can become a valuable training opportunity for local professionals

  • We link with a wide range of professionals so that families with differing needs can be referred to appropriate colleagues in the area
